don't forget the OS
How about your PSU and case?
I would go with a Nvidia 7600gt card. From memory, all the reviews say the 7600gt is better than the x1600xt, and should be about the same price.Originally Posted by 803hart
However, if you can afford it go for the 7800gt or 7900gt, these cards will be better for games.
Also, don't rush out and buy yet, wait another 3 weeks, prices will fall on cpus.

Just one more thing, that hard drive is a waste of money. You should be able to get a 200Gb Hard Drive for about 40 pounds. Sorry I can't give an exact price, I am from Australia.Originally Posted by 803hart

a pentium D will be much better than a single core athlon for CAD... but not so good for games, and why dont you get 2x1gb ram?
Nah, for about £40 all you'll get is a 120 or 160gb drive, 200gb drives are around £50 to £55. I would defenately go with the Nvidia 7600gt in part because its quite a bit quieter.Originally Posted by rad
A Sapphire X1660XT has what is quite frankly one of the nastest sounding fans I've ever heard, particularly when you consider the lack of performance. If you really want a X1600 based GPU then for the love of your sanity get one the slient versions.
Its not the whine that annoys rather the constant change of pitch, up and down, up and down. The best way to discribe it is being like a garden leaf blower.
Sorry about any inaccuracies about pricing. I did say I am from Australia.Originally Posted by mr wibble
Here in Australia we can get a 200Gb SATA Hard Drive for $110 which equals 44 pounds.
Anyway my point is you can get a much larger hard drive for very little extra money.

OK I decided to go to the trouble of getting an accurate price.
