    Raptor purchased.

Not sure this RAID thang is really as fast as the artificial benchies show it ....

so looked on ebay and the new Raptor's with 16mb cache have arrived....making the older 8mb SATA 150 drives a tad cheaper

So.....a 9 month old 74gb Raptor is on it's way to me to cross compare to the 2x80gig RAID striped Seagates that I have at the mo.

If all goes well...one gets kept for storage and one goes into an external HDD enclsure from Scan.

    10k Raptor to beat 2x7200.9 Barracuda's in RAID ?

This forum admin has his money on the Raptor in the real world of games and Windows XP boot times

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

Well assuming you used Raid 0 then you would still have the same seek time as a single 7200.9. Thats where the difference will be, your system should be more responsive and faster at loading. I wish i had one...

I'd put money on the raptor.

I'd be interested to find out as a College tutor of mine was poking fun saying that his striped 80GB drives would apparently beat my Raptor and he paid £35 less for them...

The striped disks will win at transfer rates but other than that raptors are so much better.

Depends on usage. The RAID 0 will trounce the raptor on sustained write speeds, but that's about it - random access (which is the main use for a lot of things) is in favour of the raptor.

Try using a fishtank as a case, maybe this will reveal the hidden strength of the Barracudas.

I can see it now, someone actually tries it and you get threatening PMs from them saying he'll get the cops on you

ROFL... This definitely gets my vote for the post of the day..

    My bad..

But IMO, Raptors should be faster in most cases.. Was looking to get one but figured that I can justify the extra cost..
    Me want Ultrabook
