you've only got 120GB of HDD space there, so that might be one of your first upgrades in 6 months time

PS this probably ought to go on Hexus.help

I take it you're not buying parts, but from a retailer instead?
(it's the 1 year warranty bit that gave me that impression)

If so, whereabouts were you thinking of buying from?

Think he's gone for 2 HDDs there actually (not very apparent on first glance though).

Still....240 gigs isn't an awful lot these days....I'm filling up most of a new 500gig RAID 5 array with very little effort .

Might want to consider a Raptor, if performance is an absolute must.

sounds like its a turnkey system with the warrenty ect.. if its homebuilt then lose then norton internet security and the speakers for an amp + cheap eaby hi-fi ones which will do a much better sound job
    AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array
Wintendo XP + Linux (when it works) .. just incase you were wondering

    very nice indeed

it doesnt look like you need to save any money, but if you do...dump the xfx and buy a lower spec model and overclock it yourself, saving around £130. dump the norton sytem works, thats like having a race horse and getting it to tow max and paddy's motorised home.

I would change the graphics card to either an X1900XTX or a 7950GX2, and drop the CPU to a 4800 (which is basically a 5000 at slightly lower clock speeds). I don't think you'll be impressed with a standard 7900GTX (extreme), at higher resolutions anyway. X1900 and the new 7950GX2 are much better at high res's (such as the one you have). Before anyone bashes me the memory controller is alot mor efficient on the X1900 meaning better fpss at higher res's and more AA/AF

hello, I'm buying it from SCAN computers. It's a custom built PC. I'll see if I can improve on the graphics card.

SCAN have suddenly got rid of the AMD X2 5000+ 2x1MB and replace it with a 2x512KB. What's going on???

All comments on the system, but no comments on the price???

Amd are currently moving all Athlon64 to 512 cache so no more 1Meg cache parts.

It depends what apps you intend to run, but for a large amount of general applications, cache is mostly overrated. I'd probably settle for the 4800+ and get a better graphics card, as has been suggested above.
If you're going to be playing games mostly, that's going to be what holds you back mostly anyway.

First off, if you're buying from scan, i can highly recommend them, they built my system and did an excellent job, and there after sales support has been second to none.

Things i would change - Definately replace the symantec internet security, its a huge system hog, something like nod32 would be better for antivirus, not sure about firewall tho. Everything else looks good, personally i would prefer a 1900XTX, and a logitech G5 mouse, but thats just personal preference.

The specification for this processor was originally incorrect (with 2x1Mb), the spec has now been updated.

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thankyou everyone for your replies! So do you think that the price is good, or do you think I'm getting ripped off (I guess I shouldn't say that with Scan members here)?
