Hi peeps,
Our organisation is trying to make a music video for one of our youth bands and we're looking to upgrade one of our PCs to cope with video processing.
Does anyone know of a video card for under £100 that we could purchase that would suit our needs? It's not going to be used for gaming - just for multimedia stuff.
Any ideas would be greatly apreciated.

video card doesn't really matter, UNLESS you plan on doing a lot of compositing (FX - which admittedly a lot of music vids lurve), the simplest card will work
I assume you're taking the video into your PC via firewire, rather than planning on using analogue in via an All in Wonder card (or similar).
what software you intend to use?
Yes, we're depending on Firewire but we'll also be using programs like After Effects and Preimier - will this matter? Thanks.
After Effects and Premier should be happy with a DV encoded AVI. Unless they have changed a lot since i last used them, they don't take advantage of any regular graphics hardware for processing. You do get boards that accelerate them but you are (or at least were) talking big money for them. I think there was a product called Ice for After Effects that was in the £3000 region a few years back. Matrox do hardware boards for Premier, but you are looking at about £400 from Scan.
AE 7 uses Open GL now, AFAIK, so would benefit from a better card. Using anything less is just a matter of CPU grunt and excessive amounts of RAM
Premiere doesn't care about which card you use, nor do most NLEs that I have encountered.
some of the NLEs come with hardware which aids real time rendering, but that isn't the vid card. I use Sony Vegas so it's all academic for me. ;)

didn't know AE uses OpenGL now, not used it for a couple of versions. Good to know though. perhaps i'll build a decent work horse one day and have a play again :)
