Firstly, thanks for the help with choosing components before, I ended up getting the Abit QuadGt, the Q6600 and the HD 3870 and well everything worked out well, its running fine, quick, cool and reliable. The help before settled my nerves before parting wiht so much money!

The thing is that I now have no idea what I'm doing, I want to set up RAID using the Intel Matrix onboard, not fussed about the install HDD but I have 2 x 750gb drives, one is full, one isn't and they're both connected to the motherboard via SATAII, how do I set them up in RAID 1?

I'm confused by the motherboard manual and other topics I've read about this so apologies again if I end up sounding a bit stupid here but I really don't want to play around in the BIOS and risk losing any data, thanks again

AFAIK, you can't set up two drives in a RAID array when one has data on it. (Well, you can, but you will lose all the existing data).

You need to either back up the existing drive, or get a new drive to form part of the array and then copy the data over onto it.

its simply wanting to protect the data that's already there, the install drive is fine as it is and isn't too much hassle to sort out if something went wrong, its just losing that 750gb of stuff that worries me as its uni work, photos, some music, everything thats important really!

i should've thought about losing the data before as i only copied it to this hard drive a bit ago. thinking about it I got some error messages as i tried to do it, "data error (cyclic redundancy check)" that got more and more frequent as I moved data across, most of what couldn't be copied wasn't important but I'm guessing thats not good?
