Anybody know how to wire a USB connector?

Trying to start a project to make a set of trim wheels, to work in IL2 - needs no software really, as IL2 detects/calibrates automatically, but the hardware needs to be USB connected cos my gameport screws the USB JS up.... help would be appreciated

EDIT: actually I need help with the whole thing..... what parts do i need and such

    Cheers,

Okay - lets just go through this slowly, how does il2 detect a self made hardware device????. How does it know what to interpret the signals as?.

I'm not sure its quite as simple as you would quite imagine, I'd probably be able to write you a driver to interpret "singal" strength and convert that into a value that il2 could deal with, but i certainly don't think its as easy as you imagine.

If I can think of anything to make it easy i'll pm you tumble.

To set it, you click on the thing you wanta change. Then move the homemade device and the comp sets that movement as the signal. Your gonna need some electonics in there mate in no mistake.

for a usb connection you need a special mini circuit board for home-made projects which converts your commands sent through usb into logic i/o. only thing is, they cost upwards of £75 for one. usb is expensive.
something like this: http://ezusb2131.sourceforge.net/ (it's the unix driver for a popular dongle.)

I'm starting to think of getting a cheapo JS and gutting that tbh - make that do all the hard work.... just chop the actual input hardware up a bit....

Does it have to be usb? Have seen plans for rudder pedles on teh net. They were made using variable resistors and one of those step trainer things. Drivers were availale on the net. Will look for info.

yeah unfortunately (or not) it has to be USB as you can't mix gameport & USB devices - the gameport will always win, and I like my USB stick very much..... Having a look at that link tho Cheers Flibb
