    Evesham Laptop?

I am planning to buy a general purpose laptop mainly for use at home. (Web surfing word docs, programming, perhaps and a few classic games). Portability and battery life would be usefull so it can easily be taken from room to room, or used in the garden, but it is not an absolute priority, I will not be carring it about with me every day. (Unlike my first laptop…) If it leaves home it will be by car.

Anyway, I saw this laptop on special offer from Evesham:

    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/dealoftheweek...arry-case.html

    Summary specs:
    14” dual core laptop, £800, 2.1kg

    AMD Turion x2 64, TL-52 (1.7GHz I think) ATI chipset
    1Gb ram, 80Gb 5400 HD,
    1280x800 screen, X300 graphics.
WiFi, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, Firewire, 56k modem.
    8 Cell Li-Ion battery, 4 hours claimed.
    DVD dual layer re-writer.
    Windows XP media centre.

3 year warranty, one year onsite.
    Free bag.

Do you think this is a good deal?

Has anyone had any good or bad experences with Evesham? They have a retail store in my home town, am I likey to get usefull service there, or will they just refer everything back to head office?

    Thanks.

I've had an awful experience with eversham, there sales service is good but they do not fix any problems in their workshop, they send them back to to the manufactoror, for me average fixing time was 3-6 months. One time it was sent back to me with no repairs done. O wouldn't toutch eversham with a barge pole due to customer service. To them you are profit not a person

Well I decided to go ahead and order the laptop, I did grill them on the support, and they did say that if the motherboad or screen went, they would send the laptop back to the ODM (MSI in this case) & not do a swap, so I could be wating a long time.

Utimately, I decided that the situation is no worse than if I built my own system from parts, and the motherboard went wrong.

I will let you know how the laptop performs when it arrives. Evesham have promised I will have it in 2 weeks.

quality was fine exept for the fact that it had fault after fault, screen, case, dvd drive, gfx card, screen, motherbard, you get the picture, a laptop should not fail through normal use that many times in 3 years, sorry if I sound negative but I've had auful service

Silly me for ordering from evesham, especialy after readng here about delays.

Last friday, (a few days after they where supposed to have delevered), they called me and said that it would be delayed for at least a month! They have of course had my money all that time. Needless to say, I will be cancleing the order.

I will probably order an ASUS laptop from Scan, as that way I get it with next day delevery, and asus get high costomer sastisfaction scores.
