    Overclocking FX-60 Part II

    Hi,

    Thanks to all of you who helped me with the first stages of overclocking my AMD FX-60. I am now running my CPU at 14.5 multiplier at 1.475v giving me in the region of 2.9GHz. I have XMS4000 DDR500 memory which is running at 2.5 3 3 7 at DDR400.

    Can anyone please advise me if this means it is running at its full 250MHz - DDR500 capacity and if not how would I go about reaching this.

    Kind Regards.

    It is running at DDR400 as you've said yourself.

    I would say 260x11 at 1:1 memory to squeeze the last bit of performance out of the ram.
    or 250x12 if your FX-60 could reach 3Ghz.

    with the 14.5 multi it's not but ~DDR386 as the memory controller always runs a whole integer.

    but at DDR500 it's unlikely to run 2.5-3-3-7.
    Horses for courses really.

    I'll give it a go tonight. If I run it at 250MHz, what should I set the memory at?

    You are much better leaving at ddr400 as when you go to ddr500 you will need to loosen timings on memory so you will lose any performance gain. I have mem rated at ddr550 but it will only run this at 2.5 3 3 8. Whereas I run it at ddr 440 at 2 2 2 5 it peforms much faster. Tighter timings are the key. What is your ram rated at ddr 400 and ddr 500?

    It's rated at ddr500 - 4 3 3 8 but if I run at ddr 400 I can get 2.5 3 3 7

    maybe you should run it at DDR440-460 to keep that cas2.5 timing and knock the others up a touch

    those timings arent that good at DDR400 anyway, it obviously likes to run faster and as youre touching on 3ghz now you might get good performance with a bit of extra bandwidth

    whatever you want to run it at, its basically:

    HTT x multi = cpu speed
    HTT x divder = ram speed

    and presumably your bios will list the dividers in speeds relative to 200HTT
    DDR400 = 1:1
    DDR500 = 4:5

    but when you raise the HTT your ram speed will increase proportionally, so if youre at 230HTT youll get DDR575 with the DDR500/4:5 divider

    those are only approximate figures as theres some rounding that occurs in the real calculations but that will give you a rough idea, use CPUz to see what it actually comes out as or get a calculator and work it out beforehand

    If I have the CPU at say 250MHz on a 12x multiplier at around 1.475v with the memory running at DDR400. What timings do you think would be realistic and stable?

    well if it goes to 4-3-3-8 automatically the first thing id try is to get rid of that CAS4 timing, to 3-3-3-8

    then maybe 3-3-2-8 would work but i doubt it

    i'd slow it down to whatever will work at 2.5-3-3-8, those are fair timings that wont slow down game performance much then whatever bandwidth you have above DDR400 rate is a bonus
