Hello guys, I think it's time to upgrade my poor socket 478 processor and geta new one! I have about £180 to spend to get a new processor and CPU to compliment my 7800GTX. It needs to be from eBuyer (don't ask)
I was thinking of a 3800 AMD64
and an Asus A8N
Any reccomendations would be much appreciated!

Seems a waste to spend so much on a 939 platform that is becoming obsolete. I suggest the following which gives you a slower processor and budget RAM but has much more upgrade potential. Plus you can always overclock the processor by a fair amount and you won't lose out on any performance:
Athlon 64 3200+ AM2 = £68
Asus K9N Neo-F = £55
OCZ DDR2 533MHz 2x512Mb = £52
Total = £175
^ Haha, yeah I can't afford it! I'd rather take advantage of the AMD 64's dropping in price? So do you think that mobo/cpu is a good choice and could I use my existing DDR 3200 in it?
I would go with AM2 as suggested in my previous post. If you can wait a few more weeks, you'll be able to get a better processor for the same price....maybe a dual core even if you stretch your budget by £30.
You can always sell off your old DDR ram.

yes & 939 prices should drop in a couple of weeks too.
ASrock dual sata2 for 35 quid, then wait for the price crash on the X2 3800 and pick that up within budget
Yeah the asrock seems good, how long do you think until the prices drop? Are we talking a few weeks?

So far it looks like only processor prices will drop - am I right? Motherboards will still be expensive (S939).

35 quid is not expensive
s939 motherboards can be had pretty cheaply ie ~£50, its only if you want dfi or the newer 32x chipsets will they be ~£100
It's not but I want an Asus or MSI and the NForce 4 start at around £50. Would like silent passive cooling and these cost even more.35 quid is not expensive

The motherboard has to be compatible with the Scythe Ninja. The Asus motherboards don't need the Ninja plate whereas the ASRock does.
dont get the asrock dual, just stick to pci-e only
if you get a 939 venice 3000+ or 3200+ and a good quality board (get a good quality board with low feature count instead of a cheap/old board with lots of features) you will be able to clock it much faster than a 3800+ and it should save you a few quid (get an arctic freezer 64 pro too for £15-£20 if you need it)
that shouldnt be more than £150
