Oh and will the machine need a BIOS update to run the dual core?

I don't see why it won't run the X2, it would have have the latest bios (at time of manufacture) Don't buy the cpu just yet, Ocuk have dropped their price by £30 so may be worth waiting for Scan to drop their prices as well.

    my 2c:
if you can hold out for just a little while (maybe a few days to a week or so) your options should get better. Some AMD 939 prices have started to tumble of late (see the bargains thread for Ebuyer selling the 4000+ (single core) for £103 (usually closer to double that!)) and it's rumoured that the 512kb cache dual core chips should get cheap fast too (e.g. aria selling the X2 3800+ for about £160)

There's also the question of the PCI-E 1x slot in that shuttle - will you ever be able to buy add in cards for PCI-E 1x etc?

The soon to be released AM2 shuttle (see their site for details) looks rather better with a NF570 chipset, about the same price, and has a PCI slot as well as the PCI-E 16x to give better immediate expandability?

I'm in no rush, would be good to hear if there was any news on the Core Duo 2/Conroe Shuttle.

But if there is a AM2 shuttle due soon i'll go with that.

The ST20GT is meant to support x2 processors according to the shuttle website. I have put an AMD64 3700+ in so I can't really confirm on how it fares with dual core. The shuttle casing is silver so you might want to go with a different colour DVD Drive (i notice your one is black). Graphic card should be fine, I have a 7900GT in my shuttle.

tpying "buy sn27p2" into google came up with a site called shoeboxcomputers who say that shuttles AM2 SFF unit will/should-be available as of the 10th July ... so hopefully not far away

p.s. tere's also a SN37p2 supporting conroe dual core (reportedly) on it's way ... could be interesting?
