Hey I'm currently running 4 DIMMS of OCZ Gold DDR400 2.5-3-3-7 memory. Would there be any advantage selling 'em and getting these?
The have quicker timings and I've heard 2x 1gb is a bit quicker than 4x 512mb.
Any point in me doing so?
Thanks,
`P

nah, save up for a new platform tbh![]()
Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz (400Mhzx8) 1.52V (set in bios, 1.47v real) | 4GB GeIL PC6400 4-4-4-12 | Gigabyte DQ6 @ 1600Mhz | HD2900XT 1GB | Enermax Infiniti 720W | Silverstone TJ07-B with custom watercooling | BenQ FP241WZ

It wont make a huge difference. It should run at 1t and i assume at the minute you are on 2t. You can probably tighten the timings on the ram you have anyway, so thats not really going to help.
Seeing as your next pc will probably be DDR2, i wouldnt invest much more money in DDR.
Yes, of course. It is better, just not worth spending too much time and money on.
IMO.. the difference aint worth the trouble.. really.. I have 2 systems.. one's running 2x1GB and the other's 4x512MB.. no difference in any of my work (which IS very mem intensive).. Both finishes work in similar times when thirst into just one core on my X2 system..
Me want Ultrabook
4 dimms is better than 2 dimms, except that you cant run at 1T with 4, which then makes 2 dimms faster
but 4 dimms at 2T is faster than 2 dimms at 2T and you can get better timings on 512mb DIMMS
if your board is limited to 2T no matter what (quite likely on an asrock) 2 dimms will be slower
