I think i've buggered up Windows XP on my PC - I get a lot of BSOD's now that I never used to get and I cannot figure out what led to these.
I have two separate hard drives (SATA, non-raid): C: and D:, both NTFS format.
Windows is on the C: drive. If I blow away Windows on the C: drive then would re-installing it cause any problems with the data on the D: drive (as that drive is NTFS format)? I hope not...
you can disable the 2nd harddrive in bios first before going into installation if you want to play safe.

You will be fine, I have a similar set-up and have reinstalled XP many times without a problem.
Okay, thanks for the replies. I've re-installed many times before but both drives were FAT32 format then and I had no problems. They're both NTFS now. I wasn't sure if a fresh install of XP would be able to read the NTFS filesystem on the existing drive D.

I had a similar situation, however I just had 2 partitions, I re-installed XP and kept all my data on the second partition, most programs that I had installed on the D drive didn't work (mostly games) but everything was still there, so I don't see why it wouldn't be there when using a second HDD.

You will need to re-install all your applications, but all you data will still be there. NTFS is WindowsXP's preferred file system, so it will be able to read it easily.
Make sure the data is accessable by other uses otherwise the new operating system wont have the same priviledges to access it.
I only have one user, myself, and I have Admin rights so I hope that will be okay. The one thing I have done is set the properties of 'My Documents' to D:\ to make rebuilds easier as there is less data to backup.
I would also just like to say be careful in case you've any files encrypted using EFS since I believe that you won't be able to decrypt them after you reinstall (not without a "recovery agent" [is that the right term?] anyway).

Thanks for all the advice, once again. I don't have any files encrypted, just bog-standard NTFS so I reckon I should be okay. I'll back up important stuff to my external hard drive (FAT32) just in case.
