Hmm.. the pricing looks pretty good, 150 quid for the bottom model. Their blurb for the extreme edition is interesting though, the only chip that is slated in the description to outperform the FX-62 is the one that costs £600+..

Not sure how overclocking works with DDR2 and those kind of HTT speeds.

I'm going to let all the dust settle & I may just hold out until the AMD 65nm CPUs to see how they compare.
What with Vista/DX10 early 2007 anyway that sounds like a sensible time for a platform upgrade (as if I'm not going to buy any more hardware for 6 months, right ... )

lol, well with all this hype it will turn out to be the opteron 144 situation , loads of people will imediately buy the conroe and clock it etc etc and then soon enough i can see which is the best to get. i think i'll wait for scan to stock the 6600 , then i would have been able to buy a really good conroe board and ddr2

Prices look expensive, Intels trade price for the E6600 is $316 = £173 and OC have marked that up by £80 (46%) - I'm hoping the top sellers in the uk will price it around £200

i wonder how the cheapo ones overclock...interesting to see what happens when some decent boards arrive. i also wonder how much a 1.8ghz conroe will outperform a 1.8ghz opty stock and clocked.

$316 is the ex VAT price, it's $371 inclusive of 17.5% VAT in the UK, which equates to roughly £200. That's before shipping to the UK and any costs/profit for the retailer.

TBH, £250 isn't a bad price.

£250 is cheap as crap considering it beats FX-62's which retails for very near £730.

If you compare the current AMD trade prices with what Scan are currently selling their AMD CPU's for after vat there extra for costs/profit account for 5%, even though there is a big performance boost for the price £250 is still alot when comparing to the estimated trade price for the cpu's. I believe OC's costs/profit from selling to early birds will be 30%

Well it is going to be some time before supply reaches demand levels, so the price is naturally going to be fixed as such (Intel operates in the exact same way). Considering Dell, HP, Gateway {Insert long list of smelly OEM PC companies here} will get first dibs, OEM part supply is going to take awhile to stock up. I still maintain that £250 for an FX-62 killer is a bloody bargin.

cool! the prices arnt that high for what ur gettin really, so just say i got the 250 quid conroe, what ram would be the best for it? maximum price of about 350-400 and i mean max! i dont understand RAM but i want them to be fast and allow for a little overclocking so room for it... thinking something like OCZ gold pc6400 but its up to u guys

The 2.4 looks like the best bang for buck.

I think i'll leave it 4 months and then see how everyone else gets on. Looks promising though!
