Erm looks like a power connector for a swipe card reader or something. Rather than having a big external psu to drive a serial magstripe reader, pinch power off the computer.

wires are indeed connected to a molex cable. and daverobev thats a good idea, before the format it was running DOS and wouldnt do anything but tell me it couldnt read from COM2 A/R/F?
should have stuck the drive in another comp and ad a snoop. nevermind tho!

Yup, seen old speakers powered that way too. Can't say I've seen it for a good 4+ years at least though.
