    Dual Reservoirs

    im just updating my watercooling rig and am looking into doing dual reservoirs (passive) and taking the radiator out of the loop (as its mounted ontop). I saw the dual res xbox 360:



    and fancied doing something like this. Any1 had any experience of this before (with a PC not xbox )??

    im not looking to water cool a 360 but use the same parallel reservoir setup

    Oh, I totally understand that, it was just a comment about whoever water cooled a 360 in the first place lol.

    Anyway, that kind of setup shouldn't be too difficult, but i might suggest using Y-shaped couplings rather than T-shaped ones with the 360, the latter is less efficent at dividing the coolant.

    There's a pump built into each reserator, he's gonna get 2 of them, no need for extra pumping at all, both pumps will be creating above normal pressure on the pipes and joints around the system as it is.

    who said anything about reserators? Although it would be the easiest way to go, theres myriad other cooling resevoirs about.

    True, but he's looking to go passive, and that's the best way to go about it efficently.

    the way i was going to do it is put them in parallel, get a y splitter on the in and out of the reservoirs - the way i can see it is that it will half the flow to each reservoir and then pick it up again when they join. Then becuase the water is going slower thru each reservoir it has more time to transfer the heat - i mite be totally barking up the wrong tree here

    i currently have a Laing D4 - any suggestions on if it will be powerful enough??

    You are.
    Faster is better as it moves the heat from the CPU to the res more quickly, net result the CPU is cooler. Slowing the flow means a cooler res, but a hotter CPU, which is not what you want.

    but surely it will only slow the flow as it goes through the reservoirs, the y splitter will split the tube to the input of each res, then the output of each res uses a splitter to go back to the one tube, wouldnt the flow be returned then??

    think i'll go for it worse comes to the worse, i'll use 1 rad until i can afford somethin more powerful (D5)

    EDIT: im gonna stick a couple of flow meters on either side of the Y Splitters to see what sort of drop in pressure i get - ive also contacted the guys who did the watercooled 360 see if they noticed any pressure drop

    Flow meters cause pressure drop (and they don't measure it). In fact anything that adds a restriction (so the whole loop) adds pressure drop, you get more from more restrictive fittings (hence using Ys instead of Ts).
