I need a machine that sucks no juice. It can have a 50Watt PSU for all I care. The lower the better. Running something like a Cyrix 1GHz would be nice. Does such a thing exist in today's modern world of fast food, television and AMD X2s?

So, something like a slimmed down laptop?
Pentium-M, 2.5"HD or CompactFlash storage, Integrated Graphics? Along those lines?
whats the intended usage? youd be amazed at the stuff you can do with an nlsu2 if its just for basic server stuff
I'm looking at running Slimserver on it. But I do'nt want one of those dedicated NAS things, too unreliable and not easy to update.
nlsu2 will run a full blown linux install, including slimserver, a friend of mine has one that does light webserving + ftp duties very admirably.
Not meaning to be rude or owt, but I did ask for a PC... I'm just curious as to what low power SFF PC solutions are out there. I've heard nothing but bad things about slimserver on NAS
just a suggestion, otherwise youre probably looking at via machines, www.mini-itx.com. Or, if you can find an old machine it should be pretty easy to silence it, shouldnt draw more than about 80 watts headless for a p2 rig i wouldnt have thought. slimserver doesnt need a lot of power.
Have you considered a barebones laptop?
Mini itx with a Via eden type thing is your best bet. Not much processing power but passively cooled and low power consumption.
I don't know a massive amount about it but scan sell them and they should be able to help.
Another source for EPIA boards is http://www.linitx.com/
for really low power conumption you could even go for a EPIA 5000 Eden (http://linitx.com/product_info.php?c...&products_id=1) wich comes in at 500MHz, passively cooled. Performance isn't going to be massively more than a NAS box, but at least you can stick a gig of RAM in there and get SlimServer to use more cache or something.
BTW, i'm a very happy Qnap TS-101 user. I know you don't want to go the NAS route, but they are not all bad :)
Funkstar... I was looking at them, but I read enough on forums.slimdevices.com to put me off... How easy is it to apply the latest slimserver version? And add plugins? It takes 5 seconds on the WIndows version.. I don't want it to have to take 5 minutes :)
Fair enough, thats up to you :)
The standard 6.2.2 plus AlienBBC did everything i needed it to do so didn't *need* to update to 6.3. I did though, just because it was there.
I mean to say before. If you are running windows on this low power box, have you looked at LiteXP or whatever it is called?
Would give more resources over to SlimServer and i think that might be noticable on an underpowered box like that.
