PSU blew a fuse then sparked twice... but its alive and kicking again??? So...

do i continue to use it? It seems to be firing on all cylinders and no problems at all *yet* (kiss of death). It all started last night, my lamp blew a fuse and took the computer power cord out with it...

so i stuck another power cord in and it sparked like hell. Now... having experienced this before, im pretty much on for throwing this one in the bin. But as a last ditch effort, i replaced the fuse in the original power cord, and it sparked again but that was the last.

Now it appears to be working fine! Or is it guys....

well all depends if you have important stuff on your system, you can take the risk of using it but it could end up damaging your other components, worst case for me would be my hd's getting wiped.

in your position I rather be safe and get a replacement psu..not like they cost too much unless you need a 500W+ sli one.

cheap 300w psu i guess that came out of a old pentium 4 system from pc world

Put it in the bin - it's worthless anyway and i wouldn't risk house/life/toys over it

If you've got nice components in your PC, then there's no point scrimping on the PSU.

No point risking it, just ditch the PSU and get a decent one. Better safe than sorry

Its a computer built around audio mixing, not graphics so it doesnt need uber power
Pretty hefty soundcard, 2 gigs of ram, 2 HDD's up at around the 400gig mark total and a amd 64 running at speeds of 3700+... oooh- and my very own hand wired system to switch between jumpers haha.

I'm sure you'd love to see the sound card, so here it is if you havent seen it before

thanks man, might look into this! Would be handy though to have a pci ex connection just in case...
Just wondering also, can you make a pc near silent? Does the majority of noise come from the psu itself or cpu fan/other fans?

I would advise getting one of the branded PSU's rather than a budget 500 watt one. Very cheap high wattage PSU's tend not to live up to there rateings.

Bin it ASAP. Its not worth possibly destroying other components or causing a house fire.
Buy a Seasonic to replace it.

bin the PSU - also, if your looking for something a little quieter, maybe consider getting an Antec sonata 2 case - come with a decent PSU and various bits and bobs to help keep noise down (although it's hardly silent - if you want that, avoid anything with fans, but that really limits your options)
