Has anyone ever screwed up a bios, for example flashing it with the wrong update or there being a power problem during a flash?
If the answer is yes how did you do it, what was the problem how did you fix it?
Thanks!

My mate screwed his BIOS flash when his power cut halfway through
He bought a new chip from Abit
My BIOS has a safe recovery function so it resets itself and goes into disaster recovery mode
No, but I did toast a router once by incorrectly flashing the firmware. It was about the third firmware revision I'd updated on it. The first 2 were straightforward one program updates. For some reason, the last update required to be run twice with some buggering about. Unfortunately I failed to read the instructions last time round!
Needless to say I've never bothered updating the firmware on the replacement since
Are most BIOS chips soldered or socketed these days?

I've not screwed one up, but I did hot flash a bios chip so that the motherboard could support a new revision CPU.
I didn't have a compatible CPU in hand, so it was the only way to make it work without having to spend more money or borrowing one.
I brroke one, and hada to buy a new mobo, wasn't paying attention and bought a Skt 754 instead of Skt A, then had to spend more money on a 754 CPU
Still, I ended up basicaly upgrading...which I wanted to do, didn't want to do it that way though
Broke a shuttle with a bios flash
Basically i was thinking about setting up a service for fixing broken bios chips. THe equiptment can be got from the USA for about £200. There are places which do this but there are either in europe or the USA - not much in the UK.
Only thing is im not 100% if there is a) the need and b) weather there would be problems with soldered chips - are most soldered now days?
EDIT: Actually there does seem to be a couple of good UK companys offering this - however its good to look into these things.

most chips are not soldered, but there is another company that do this and they are based in the uk, i got one from him a new chip, i would say there isnt a market forit as most ppl are not like us and will take it to a shop or buy another one
Exactly what i thought lol - just thought i would see what other people experiences on the subject were.

Nope.
nF2 boards used to corrupt BIOs quite frequently.
I used to either hotflash or us a BIOS Savior to restore.
they should all be the same kind of socketted chip
i thought there was one tool that could lift them all out, then you just need a supply of new chips to put back in
god yes, two av8 3rd eyes have gone to scrap because of the utility sucks that i used. oh and on my asus board i managed to flash to a lower bios because i left the disk in the cd drive that came with the mobo !!!! grr
but that is sorted now, and is flashed to latest version
i didnt have a floppy to flash but i think if you search bios chips on ebay it then links to the site thats something like motherboard-biosflashuk or something and he sells it all so i mean i doubt at a tenner a pop and 5 quid for the tool he makes that much cash, and you have to remember most people who have pcs are not into the inner workings of pcs, and the percentage that are is small and for a tenner a pop there is nothing to be gained, speak to the guy i said and see how he does, but iwould say that due to the fact MOST people wouldnt know what the hell a bios chip is that its not worth it hop this helps
