Overdue PC Upgrade
My parents pc is showing early stages of dying, so they are looking for a new pc.
They have looked at Dell Systems, averaging around £500-£750 as they want something to last
They have the following
Athlon 1400
256mb
Geforce 2 GTS
40GB IDE
DVD-Rom
Windows 2000
Looking to keep the case and buy the following
Asrock 939SLI32-eSATA2
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Retail
250 GB Seagate 7200.9, SATA
NEC ND-4571
1.44Mb Sony Silver Floppy Disk Drive OEM
128MB AOpen 6600GT
1Gb (2X512Mb) Corsair TwinX DDR, PC3200
480W XClio-SCF aPFC Super Silent SLi (21Db)
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2 OEM Single
Ahead Nero Express Burning ROM Suite 1 6.6.x OEM ** NEW**
Comes to £490 inc vat
Think it will last them a few years?
Thanks

i would get am2 or conroe instead of 939 so you can upgrade the chip later, the cheapest option is probably to get an am2 setup in a few weeks after the price cuts
and go for 2gb of decent ram instead of the 1gb twinx, it will be worth it

Might consider replacing the 6600GT with something a little newer like a 7300 or 7600.

Are your parents gamers?! :p
I'd also recommend AM2, but get a mo-bo with integrated graphics (unless they're HL2 nuts).
I've just built an AM2 based pc (with apologies if you've seen me extolling this in another thread) based on this mobo:
Gigabyte AM2 nForce 430 ATX Audio Lan GA M55 PLUS S3G
integrated nvidia 6100, firewire, sata, pci-e, giga-ehternet etc etc.
£65 inc!
I'd lay off buying this until the end of the month though when the conroe-induced price cuts should kick in.

Tnx for the feedback, it was just the cheapest half decent system i could do, plus i didnt think onboard video had a DVI output as they already have a TFT?
Well the TwinX is only £70, 1GB DDR2 is about the same or 2GB DDR2 is £180 which is way to much...
We might not be able to wait till the end of the month as it might not last that long lol
They use it for a lot of things..

its about £130 for 2gb of good DDR2
