    What Asus Mobo is better?

    or

I thought the premium was always better than the deluxe...? But the Deluxe costs more?

I've noticed that the Premium has 8 SATA II ports and the Deluxe has 4.

IMO the Premium is better but could someone confrim what one is and why?

    Thanks all

    Darren

The Deluxe one has a extra PCI express (1*) slot , slient heat pipe and bulit in WiFi. I think the deluxe is the one to get. it is miles better than the Premium .

The first link is for the new i965 chipset from intel, the second is the i975.

i965 is supposed to be a mid-range, but new chipset. i975 was the top range of the 'last' generation. In practice it seems the i975 is faster at the moment, despite the i965 containing new features that are supposed to boost performance. When the bios matures the i965 could end up faster, and certainly should end up cheaper.

Supposedly the 965 board will not do crossfire (nor SLI for that matter). The PCI-E 16x slots are independant. Great for someone like me who will use the second slot for a RAID controller

Of course, it seems that SLI/CF boards will hopefully be a thing of the past as the drivers mature to the point where they will work in any motherboard.

It's not a case of drivers maturing but that they are currently designed deliberately not to allow each others dual gfx on their chipsets.
The second that they think that they could make more money from allowing that it will happen ...
