Aye just wait for price drops. I know US != UK prices, but we can dream. Unfortunately, single core prices aren't expected to drop that much and dual cores are beyond my budget (I'm upgrading 2 PCs, sigh).

Let me be the first to ask for the 3GHz:

Pretty please you nice person, can I have your 3Ghz CPU - I'll pay postage

I think this is the URL you spoke about... http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2800 or at least one of the better ones I've found.

    To cut to the chase:

AMD Athlon 64 price cuts will receive price cut up to 30%
AMD Athlon 64 X2 will receive price cuts up to 50%
AMD Sempron processors will receive price cuts up to 15%

As far as I know FX and Opteron's are not getting any price cuts and the price cuts are for the AM2 range, at least that's what the memos mentioned (read article for full details). But again according to the article and logic really, the 939 processors should stay close to the new AM2 range, if not a bit cheaper, so expect the 939 prices to drop roughly the same amount.

There are a couple of problems with this price drop however, firstly it's unlikely (as previously mentioned) we in the UK will see those percentage drops on our UK retailer prices. We will of course see good prices, but I’m not sure that they will be a good as those mentioned in the article picture. We'll also likely have to wait some time from when the official prices drop is done (24/7/2006) and when the retailers drop their prices. As the retailers will want to clear their old stock and some may charge previous prices on the new cheaper stock for as long as they can get away with.

But its good news all the same, I need to upgrade my old 3500+ Winchester which has served me well. Not sure what to go with though, maybe a nice X2 as they seem to be affected (for obvious reasons) the most. We'll just have to wait and see what the prices are like when all the dust settles!

eBay seems to have become a false ecomony of late, Even secondhand items being more expensive than the comparative new item on scan/dabs/lowestontheweb.

Of course if eBay is flodded with secondhand processors, then the prices will tumble.
