    How low can they go?

No, not the fame obsessed big brother house mates, but X2 processors. I have £250 burning a hole in my pocket for a new X2. My 3000+ is getting a bit long in the tooth.

lowest on the web, has a 4400+ for £270. Now conroe is almost out, you think this is going to drop any lower in the near future? (near being in the next week or so).

I'd guess they're going to slump fairly soon. Conroe official launch is the 24th isn't it? Some people have said 26th for big price slashes from AMD - don't know if that's confirmed anywhere though. Also, no idea how quickly that would move to retail - I'd guess people who've got a lot of S939 stock might chop down a fair bit.

OcUK (not popular around here I know...) have an OEM 4400+ for £246 inc VAT if you've got a cooler you want to use...

Wait for a couple of weeks for everything to settle. Or put it towards a conroe system.

If you can't wait go for the 3800 X2, there are some pretty good prices for them at the moment. You could easily clock that to 4400+ speeds.

I can wait until the 26th I reckon, thats a good price from OcUK. I'm sorely tempted, but I know as soon as I get it in the post, £100 will disappear off the price

Nah I aint building a new rig yet, and I was planning on the 4400+ and clocking it to FX-60 speeds

Cool, there's a pretty high chance you should be able to clock the 3800 to 2.6GHz (FX-60 Speeds)

I overclocked my manager's 3800 X2 to 2.65 GHz with not much voltage increase and was prime stable for over 20 hrs.

I suppose the only thing your gaining with the 4400+ is the 1mbx2 cache.

I'm not going to get 600mhz OC on this mobo, 400 is easily do-able, might just save myself a hundred quid and get a 3800. Dual core 2.4ghz is plenty of meat. Just not as much as 2.6

Not to start the rumour mill but ...

I read in various places on the net that AMD will be slashing prices this month - one even showed leaked AMD prices. Aint got the URL at hand, but off memory, 4600x2 was $300 (dollars).

read a lot of articles on the reg + the inq that say AMD prices are going to plummet. Its not that suprising, theres no-way a A64 can compete with a Conroe unless its A LOT CHEAPER TO BUY. and i have to say at current price estimates for Conroe you would have to be mad to spend the money on AMD, and this comes from someone who's an AMD fan.

im waiting till 01/08/06. then we see where we stand and ill get the new comp ordered.

Are we talking price cuts across the board here or just for X2s, 'cause I'm looking for a nice Opteron 170...

I'm looking for another cheap 3000+ CPU . Both 3000+ I got now can go sub-1V at stock speed to achieve passive cooling or push up to 2.7Ghz with 1.45V. Still got some spare ram/psu/hdd/hsf. IMO the 3000+ is still the king of bargain.

Yup I heard the rumours of massive prices cuts and I'm holding out for a 4400 at £200 not overly likely but I can dream cant I If 4800's hit the £250-300 range I'll dance around like a nutter

And however asked I'll be practically giving away my 3000+ soon
