    New laptop, having problems

    Hi guys,

Just got an asus a6va, 1gb ram 1.7ghz centrino x700 mobility.

I'm having lots of problems with crashes. In CSS it crashes often, gta it crashes, gtr runs fines, and sometimes it hangs on start up. Infact now, it's doing a disk check, and it's took over 30 minutes to get to 68%, i've done a few disk checks since i've had it (thursday).

Does this sound normal or is it a faulty machine? It's really annoying me, and if it's the norm, (never had a gaming machine before) I'm going straight to mac and ditching gaming.

    Thanks.

Try updating all the drivers - graphics, chipset, everything.

There's no reason for that to be the norm. If there's a problem with the machine, you'll have to send it back for repairs.

Updated gfx drivers, will look for some chipset ones.

If problem still happens, is it defo faulty?

If its hanging on startup and its under a week old, it really sounds like something is wrong. As its so new its not really worth worrying to much about it, just send it back and leave it up to them to sort.

Those symptoms make me think it's a hardware fault rather than a software / driver problem. Its definitely not the norm.

Run a Memtest86 and see if your RAM is throwing up any errors. Might be a loose or faulty module.

If it isn't, i'd send it back, and ask for everything to be fully checked - CPU, ram, graphics card, motherboard etc or a replacement.

I dont know about Asus, but some manufacturers such as Dell, have hidden diagnistic tools as one of the boot options. It might be worth giving their technical support a ring and its possible, if they exist someone can talk you through diagnisig the fault. They can then recconmend the best course of action to you.
