Some nice prices, it seems only the 512k cache ships are getting the price cuts. The 4800+ and 5000+ prices are insane.

Yeah they are discontinuing 1mb cache desktop CPU's. It's all going in the opterons apparently.

Ouch! Just bought a 3800+ dual core AM2 yesterday. Didn't think it would lose £100 overnight!!!

Oh man gutted. If you really want the money back RMA that one, pay the delivery charges, and then order a cheaper one

Well, to be fair, the system's for my old man and I did suggest that he waits another week to possibly get a Conroe system instead. But being impatient, I opted for AM2. However, I certainly didn't anticipate that the prices would fall a good week before Conroe is released!

He doesn't know about the price drop and I don't think I'll tell him either

Apparently not - which is one of the main reasons, other than cost, why apparently they've dropped the line.

hmm ok. Upgrading end of the month and still not sure whether to get a 5000+ or get my first intel system with a e6600.

Looking at the review above it seems that this edges it over the 5000+ and I'm guessing the intel will be smoother to run desktop apps with(?). I guess the main thing for me is that there is a wide variety of motherboards available for AMD. ah choices

Basically, nothing that noticable in games but if you encode video or run 3d rendering the Intel is without doubt, the better buy.

The E6600 is probably your best bet right now. just remeber, theres no motherboards available yet because conroe isn't released until monday.
