Am i too hot?

my 3800 x2 will be around 40 - 41 C when at stock speeds, but when i went to automatic over clock in the bios, its gone to 2.3 rather than 2 which was stock, but the temp has gone right up to 49 - 50, and that's while im not even doing anything on the pc, if i was to make my fan speed faster, would this help the temps come down, im also adding 3 case fans in a few days time aswell.

Hopefully i wanted to get it to 2.6 as every one elses manages to get that, but im woundering if it will get to hot before getting to 2.6,

so guys, will makeing the freezer pro 64 speeds faster and adding my case fans do anything?

I'm using a Freezer 64 Pro, and my CPU runs a steady 42oC on idle and around 48oC on burn, and considering the size of the OC I have I don't think that's too bad.

So yeah, I'd say yours does look a little too warm. Increasing fan speed will definately help with cooling at the cost of noise, although saying that I run my Freezer 64 at full and it's barely audiable.

Increase the Freezer's fan speed, get those extra 3 case fans in and you should be all good

Before you up the HSF speed, see what it's like with the additional case fans. It could just be that your case temp is just a little hot and the HSF efficiency is compromised as a result. You can add as many fans as you like to mobo components, but if you aren't exhausting it out of the case, they aren't going to help.

managed to get around 57 C !! so i removed the side to my case and it went back to 48 - 50,

how to i increse speeds for my freezer pro, did have a program on my pc, but i dont think it does anything

Just out of interest, how many case fans do you have at the moment and what size?

I only have one front and one back 120mm fan and my cooling is more than adequate.

don't forget that the cpu temp on air cooling relies largely on the ambient temp. It's quite warm at the moment (31-32 here) so my cpu is in the mid 50s. If it was 20 in the room it should hit about mid 40s. Most cpus are built to run happily up to at least 60-70, if not 80 (or more) and your gpu might be considerably hotter. Cooler is better sure but don't freak out too much

If your temp is dropping quite a lot when you remove the side of your case, then your case fans aren't doing their job or theres something chunky blocking airflow.

Remember with case fans the air needs to flow through the case, usually in the front and out the back, sometimes with a 3rd intake on the side. Make sure all your fans are blowing in the right direction and the have a clear path for air to flow through the case and out the back.

on the subject of case fans remember to try and balance your system. You should have about as much air being sucked into the case as is being blown out.

Well, depends on the system - the air has to be able to get into the case somehow, but that can just as well be achieved with a hole as an intake fan

if you dont have case fans then use your head and put some in, the hot air cant go anywhere without them so it cannot possibly get cool no matter what hsf you got, stick an intake and exhaust in and you will be fine, god how obvious can these things be

i wouldn't start ocing unless you have a good cpu cooler (zalman or something is only 20 - 30 pounds at most) and a good case fan 120mm if possible

my 3000 at 2.6 is running at 42 today due to the mad summer temps anything above 50 is not recommended - you are cooking your system !

My 3000+ at 2.8 running 38 idle and 46 load. Could do better if I turn up the fan. The noisiest things in the system are the 3 maxtor drives

i did say say im getting some case fans,, 3 to be exact for now inaway, and probaly 2 more so thats 5 case fans.

should i buy some artic silver compound and peel of the stuff what came with my freezer pro?

P.S - isnt my cooler good enough to get low temps?

Try some Arctic Silver Ceramique or Arctic Silver 5. Not cheap though...
If the heat from the CPU can't reach the cooler fast enough, even if your got the best cooler it'll still get hot.

If you want to know if your cooler or the thermal paste is dragging you, try touch the base of the heatsink when you stress-testing your CPU.

The cooler's definately good enough, it's running my Opteron 148 @ 3Ghz stabily at 42 in this ridiculous heat.

From all you've said it sounds like it's just inadequate fans at the moment, the temps should drop once you get your case sorted with the fans
