Asus CPU Lock Free!?

I just heard of this Intel only feature, and I am wondering if it works with the conroe chips and does it mean that I can have any multiplier (within reason) on any conroe chip?
If so it kind of defeats the need for the higher clocked versions... (after the E6600 of course - my baby)

It does depend how variable the chips are and how good Intel's binning process is (i.e. if the 'better' chips really are more capable).

I presume it does, but remember, chips are all graded by speed, when produced. you wont be able to go get a low end chip and get the same speed/stability as a X6800.

Not necessarily - There is a low demand for high end chips and a high end chips - therefore if intel get good yeilds some chips which could be sold as high end models are clocked to a mid range level to sell them.
