I'm going for 6400, at not much more than the 6300 (by £25 on Komplett) and a fair bit cheaper than 6600 (by £70 on Komplett) it seems like the best bang for buck.

I think the E6600 definately offers the best price to performance ratio. It's definately the one I'd go for.

At current pricing and with the info I've seen on overclocking and 2mB vs 4MB cache, I'd say the E6400 is the current sweet spot.

I'd say the E6600 I was going to get an AMD Opteron and overclock it for abour £30 less than the E6600, but figure the E6600 has so much more going for it why shouldn't I spend £250 on it?!

Most people recomend the E6600 over the E6400 as it has much more in the way of cache and a higher clockspeed as stock. It is also possible to overclock it to being more powerful than AMD's FX-60/62 which are monster chips as they are.

My orignal choice was E6600 due the extra 2Mb L2 cache, but i am considering the E6400 due to offering the best value for money.

The extra cache doesnt make an overwhelming difference an average of 3%, so basically i asked myself will the extra few fps or minutes that you wouldnt really notice.

But for me it really depeneds on how high an E6400 can overclock, if it can reach 3.4ghz+, while a E6600 will most likely reach 3.8ghz, then E6400 is a no brainer.

Well the E6600 is probably gunna be alot of clocked down higher end models so i can see that being popular and thus meaning it being even more popular and making there even more clocked down models mawahahahaahahha

Don't rate the extra cache too much but the higher multiplier definitely makes the E6600 more attrative than the lower models. Really my decision will be based on how high the mainstream MB can go with the FSB. I'd be happy overclocking a E6300 to somewhere between 2.4GHz and 2.8GHz for value.

I think it was the anandtech review that said that the extra cache wont make much difference now but more for future apps. The main difference between the 6600 and 6400 is the clock speed really.

Taking a look at some results the way I see it is that Intel have priced it about right, the 6600 does seem about £70 more worth it, just depends if you can justify it.

In one of the new reviews about the place, it showed gaming wise the extra cache only gives about 1.2% extra. The only significant difference was when it came to divx encoding and gave about 10%

Its a pity the FSB is set so high on these things. DDR2 800 seems pretty rare and expensive.

tbh, i think that E6300 will sell well as this chip is still gonna be very good and will be able to OC to around 2.5GHz iwould have thought, so for a budget im considering it...
altho i would love the the E6600 as from the reviews iv seen it out does the AMD FX-62, which is no mean feat!

Personally I'm pretty sure I'm going for the 6600. Thats mainly because I have a job coming up that should be quite well payed. I still might get a 6400 or even 6300 if I recon I'll be wanting a kentsfield after only a couple of months. I think until January I could probably make do with a measly FX-60 beater
