Does VIA Mainboard need RAM to start BIOS or is mine DOA?

    VIA EPIA CN10000 Mainboard

I'm trying to confirm whether my new board is working. I've connected the front panel switches and LED's but can't get any output to the monitor. I haven't got any memory to put in yet so is this the problem? Normally a board will do 'something' even when there's bits missing..

When I power up I get a tiny click from the on-board speaker, the power and HDD lights come on but there's no output to the monitor at all, the monitor light doesn't even change from amber to green. I've tried taking the board out of the case and it makes no difference. I know the power supply is okay because the board I'm replacing is still working 100% with it.

    Any advice appreciated.

I expected it to start beeping like other mobo's but I hope you're right, cost me an arm and a leg to get it to the UK from the US via Canada, the last thing I want to do is send it back!

Well, if there isn't any angry sounding POST beeps, it could simply be that you haven't got a speaker plugged into the motherboard
