Possible new build, all comments welcome

Hi all I'm thinking of putting these together as a gaming/general purpose system current system is opposite. So this is complete build.

    AMD AM2 Athlon 64 4600+
    ASUS M2N-E NF570, Socket AM2
    2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC6400 (800)
    256Mb Leadtek 7900GT Standard
    Samsung SH-W163A/BEBN Black SATA
    250 Gb Samsung Spinpoint
    Xclio-II CS-3060 Midi Tower Case
120mm Akasa Amber Case Fan x2
    480W Enermax Coolergiant AX Series

All part from Scan total £747.85 with free delivery.

How good is the heatsink/fan that comes with these AM2 dual core?

    Any comments welcome.

Yeah I thought about going core 2 but have never built an intel system I geuss I could be an amd fanboy.

I'll look into an equivalent spec and see how pricing goes.

Seem to remember on first looks that motherboards are more expensive.

    Any other thoughts out there?

    I would go for conroe
    a conroe ready motherboard..
go for the conroe e6600 ..
The ram is good and would be supported with conroe.
Maybe a hiper type r for more power..

    Everything else is great

Hi care to recommend a psu at around the same £54 mark?

Total budget was £700 but I've streched to £750 if my wife will let me.

yeh conroes are really good, and building with intel, traditionally easyer with intel (amd always used to be the chipset hell, intel by comparison bloody easy!)

psu tagan, using nothing but now in all my important machines.

One thing with motherboards, its worth not cutting the costs, my main box has a supermicro board, which cost my insurance co some £400. Money damn well spent, i had a problem with a bios update cuasing problems with my secondary gfx card (PCIe 5900) i rang them, spoke to an enigneer within about 2 minuites, who understood where the problem was in about 5 min, 1 hour later, all working. What felt like a custom bios patch, and been told not to use "economy" cards (the board had only been tested with 6xxx and later!).

So don't complain about wasting money on motherboards. The motherboard and the PSU are the hardest things to diagnose faults with imo.

Ok looked at core 2 duo
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 S775,
    Gigabyte GA 965P-DQ6

but cost now £862.60 way above limit.

    Any other thoughts out there?
