mate was just sent a thoroughbred 2800 rather than a barton 2800 (same price). rather than rma send it back straight away, hes tested it (didn't know it was a thoroughbred until he did...) and found it would post as 225 * 11 fine.
just wondering if this was a good overclocker?
oh and his cpu temps are 30 degrees, granted though hes using one of these on the cpu:

Looks to be a good clocker, is 225x11 the furthest it will go? find the max and then you know ;)
A Barton at the same speed would still beat it, as it has more cache. But as the Barton's are locked now you would only be able to clock the fsb up.

can't remeber the code, and its hidden under a slk900 now... :) / :( depending on the way you think.
the clock probably isn't the further it'll go, it hasn't been bedded in and its only using generic paste. with better paste, bedded in, and with the memory timingss tweaked (the bugger has 2 * OCZ platinum 512mb / pc3200!!!!!!!) it should go further.
its currently sitting at 12.5 * 200 becasue the fans annoying it - it has been 5v modded....

Try and push it a bit more. Should get more out of it than 2.5ghz. The RAM is only running at stock isnt it!!?
What are the default voltage? 1.6 or 1.5?
DONT put more through the 1.6 than 1.8, and the 1.5 1.7/1.75. and go slow.

:) Because it's 256k TbredB rather than 512k Barton you lose roughly 5% speed per clock cycle BUT TbredB tend to clock a little higher than Barton and as said you're more likely to find a non-Barton that is unlocked enabling you to get the maximum out of your mobo and RAM. So 11x225=2.475ghz which should be on par with a Barton at 2.35ghz (XP3400+ or XP3500+). Not bad at all, I wouldn't trade it in for a Barton.
Though i think 2800 bartons arent locked yet ( i may be wrong ), it seems you're friend has got himself a good overclocker. Granted if he RMA'd it, he might get a good-overclocker of a barton, which might beat it by 1%. But then he might get a crap overclocker........I would advise your freind that providence has played it's part and to humbly accept her help - ya got a good'un

at the moment, the RAM is at stock, but only for a windows/linux install (better make sure everything is buttery smooth...).
given the RAM was of such high quality, i would expect it to take fsb225 without problems. only thing is, the board sets it to cas3 (!!!) when it should be running at cas2 (or at least when fsb=200).
Tum te tum, looks like a load of pifast is in order...
thanks for the voltage info blockers, is that to do with heat or the cpu itself? if the heat, bear in mind this cas has 2 120mm fans and a tornado (120cfm!) cpu fan on it.
I can hear it from 2 stories upstairs....

I'd say that's a very good clock. I didn't realise the bartons were coming out locked now. That's a shame.

sry but i have to disagree it seems a very average o/c to me as its only gained 0.225 mhz which does only give it the equivalent speed of roughly 3200+
or under closer investigation when cross referencing tbred b , barton 333 , and barton 400 chip speeds and cache levels actually comes closer to a 3150+
not gonna write the math as it will get quite confusing. Im sure austin can work it out also and see what im saying.
But i still wouldnt trade it in as i believe the extra mhz will give him a bigger advantage in gaming than a 512 cache. erm ok i will do the math as i just figured out an easy way to explain.
2700+ =2.167, 2800+=2.250 difference being 0.083 mhz =tbred equivalent of 100+
overclock of 0.225
conversion of 0.225 into tbred equivalent 100+,s 0.250 shared into 0.083 = 3 which in turn = 300+ with 0.001 mhz spare
2800+, +, 300+ =3100+
so you have the tbred eqiuv of 3100+ speeds
i would also be happy to run some sandra benchmarks on a 2800 barton at 2.35 so as we can see the real world difference ur speed actually makes. as i think the t,bred rating gives higher performance than a barton rating.

thanks for the oppinions, each bouncin. btw that wasn't an optimal overclock, just chucking it in and seeing how far it would go in 5 minutes. bearing in mind idle temps of 30 degrees (mine are nearer 45 with AR3).
though are you sure you;'re right with those figures bouncin? 3200s are clocked at 200*11, i can understand that a TB will be round 5% slower so why not al LEAST 3200 if its clocking quite a bit faster (bear in mind the bus has jumped a HELL of a lot, you can't just do direct clock speed comparisons).
I'm not saying its a great OC, just i would have though it would out perform a 3200 easily!

you could be right m8 its hard to figure out the speed s for amds and i just used the most logical way of figuring it out although ur right i dint take into account the bus speeds in my math so prolly is around 3200+. i got my 2700 tbred upto 2.5 so u should do ok im not putting down the chip or anything with my comments m8 just my opinions :)
oh and an easy way to find out if it outperformed 3200+ would be to drop it in ur system and see if it goes any faster. im betting it will
:) AMD don't make things to easy when comparing. They give too much credit to both the 512k of Barton and also 400FSB. When you look at speed comparisons you see that 512k gives roughly a 5% boost so if all other factors are equal (most particularly FSB) that would make the TbredB@2.48ghz about the same speed as Barton@2.35ghz. When you try to assing an 'XP rating' I find it's best to do it off the Barton speed. Since you're roughly equal to Barton@2.35ghz we can work it out from the Barton@2.20ghz (XP3200+). 6.8% faster than the XP3200+ would make you XP3418 but since you also have a faster FSB (450mhz vs 400mhz) you could easily place it at XP3500+ speed.
:cool: There's certainly no right or wrong way to work it out, there's simply no definitive answer but there's no doubting you're very fast. Using things like Sandra won't help much, Sandra for example takes virtually no account of FSB, memory bandwidth or L2 cache. You really need to look at apps/games ... esp the ones you use or are interested in. I'd have to say since a Barton would need to clock around 2.35ghz to give comparative perf which one unlikely to do, stick with your TbredB.
