Or will they raise in price in the next few months.
Secondly, do people think that the motherboard price will drop with more products on the market?

You're right on both subjects. CPU price should fall when there are more of them in stock, and mobos... well, I sure hope they do drop. Now there are what, 6 to 10 mobos supporting Core 2?
Mobos will drop the most, Asrock and the like will pump out cheap mobos. You will end up with a good spread of prices and features like you have for other processors.
I'm not rushing into Conroe, there will be better motherboards and and cheaper prices before Christmas.
Conroe will drop - simply as AMD are being agressive on pricing and Intel will look overpriced to punters otherwise. Sure, conroe is better, but it's bang for buck. The CPU price war has just begun :)
Motherboards are a huge sticking point right now - i'm waiting for a really solid Asus board with lots of good reviews and a stable bios before thinking about it..
What - like this http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l...79&modelmenu=1

Fills me with confidence :p
heheh yeah something like that - does it review well?Quote:

I guess it's not compatible?
Regardless of compatability, it seems Intel chips on nVidia chipsets is not a good combo.
Any cpu and chipset is nota good combo for nforce chipsets, I will never ever again buy an Nforce chipset...
Well with Nvidia saying the relationsip with Intel will be more "intimate" the combination might improve.
I need to build a system for uni but might consider waiting a month or 2 extra for the market to warm up properly.
Well I can't see prices rising - unless distributers decide to cash in on early heavy demand, but I feel Intel are pretty pleased that for the FIRST time they are causing AMD some hurt in the enthusiast/gaming market...... and if they can make money at the launch price - they they can make even more as they ramp up production volumes - to the extent that prices shoul fall by Christmas....Quote:

The Asus P5B Deluxe would appear to be the best option available at the moment, but it is early days for these motherboards.
I personally expect the prices to hold fairly steady until the demand has fallen. On the motherboard front, I will be going for an Intel 965 chipset. The board I will be getting (GA_965P_DS3) has had a person pull off a 474FSB with a 0.1V increase and a cheap Akasa CPU cooler. The current set of motherboards do appear to be pretty good. However, the Asus boards have been having some problems. Of the two boards one person has recieved, both have had problems, in one of them the first PCIe x16 slot didn't work, on the second, the RAM was not operating properly. This was on the Asus P5W DH (~£160).
According to overclockers.co.uk forums (not the most reliable bunch I know ;)) their prices are being kept high through the distributors... I think it'll be a while before they come down again, I predict a good couple of months before the dust settles and the early adoptors with loads of money have all been satisfied!!Quote:

Won a CustomPC award in the most recent issue - they say its the best core 2 duo board bar it not being cross fireQuote:
