Newbie: Seeking some serious help.

I need some help building a PC for myself. I have never built a system before and this should hopefully be the first which I hope to then keep up to date later down the line. I have been reading a lot about computer reviews to try and assist me with my build components.

The following is required from the build: -

I want a PC that I can use for gaming.
Want the PC to be quiet.
Want the PC to be easily upgradeable later on

I have approximately £800 to spend on this build.
The following is what I have down on paper so far (nothing bought yet): -

Antec Performance P150 with PSU
Core 2 duo E6400
* need silent mobo to go with processor *
Sony DRU820A dvd drive
Samsung spinpoint Hard drive 120gb
I have a keyboard and mouse
* need good gaming 20 to 20+ inch lcd monitor *
7600GT heatpipe gigabyte graphic card
Not bothered about floppy
* need good DDR ram that is easy to configure with the cpu and mobo used * - don’t know how to set this and haven’t a clue what to buy.

Please suggest any changes or additions to the above.

The jump in price for 20" to 20"+ can be quite large so best to stick to 20" though I think they may be out of yer budget. Dell and NEC have some nice 20"

I'd also get a floppy in case yer BIOS gets corrputed and u have to reflash it - don't think u can do this with a cd but that might have changed. A floppy has saved my bacon a few times - and its only a few bob.

Once you decide on a mobo just have a look at the manufacturers site for compatible ram or check with users here. I'm getting an Asus p5w and some mushkin ram for it.

I can recomend the Asus P5B Deluxe for silent conroe mobo, its a bit picky about RAM, but then it seems all conroe boards are...

What ram would you recommend and at what size.

Whatever is on the compatability list for the motherboard you choose.....2 x 1GB I would lean towrds.

But with these boards being so picky, I would say only buy with the mobo manufacturer recomends.

Corsair, Crucial or OCZ are the best for memory in my experience.

Change the Harddisk to 250Gb
