Arctic Silver
A: I use Arctic Silver 3
B: I just read a link from Hexus News Page about Arctic 5 and it apparently kills Arctic 3 stone dead (1 to 4 degrees difference)
C: Did you know you are supposed to "burn it in" after applying it, for a few hours at full load, then power down and leave it to cool and set for 15 hours?
Well thats what they did in the test.
I blumin didn't know that.
-
I haven't done that :o
Mind you it does go off at night so I guess that counts. Lol. Mine's at 44C now :)
-
i use ceramique and it was way better than AS3 and also wipes off clean and doesent need an alignment time period either
-
Eek, I did not know about a "burn-in" period. What is an alignment time period and what is ceramique, another brand of thermal paste?
-
Is ceramique what AS4 is?
-
ceramique can be thought of as AS4, except it costs a fraction of the price, isn't electrically conductive and is easier to clean & apply
-
fraction of the price, FO!!!
as3 is cheaper, i dont see 1-5c worth buying a new tube for when youve already got a tube of something else, tho i was running out when i got the ceramic, theres not really any difference between them imo
also as3 is 10x easyer to spread properly than as ceramic. wish i stayed with as3 now :(

Oh, I see, there is no such thing as Artic Silver 4? I was looking around for AS4. How does Ceramique compare to Artic Silver 5 in terms of temperature performance? So does Ceramique compares favourably to AS3 temperature wise?
---ADDITION---
From the ArticSilver website:
Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver 5's conductive matrix, it will take up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity.
...
This break-in will occur during the normal use of the computer as long as the computer is turned off from time to time and the interface is allowed to cool to room temperature. Once the break-in is complete, the computer can be left on if desired.
For Ceramique the website says it will take a minimum of 25 hours and several thermal cycles.
The Conductive Matrix has you. ;)

Well i just pick up some of the Arctic Silver 5 today after using up the last of my 3. don`t know how good it will be yet don`t have the time until weekend, so if any of you posters have a go with it let me know how you get on. and i will up date sunday.

They skipped the number 4 for the same reason that Nokia (for example) doesn't have a phone in the 4XXX series.
Number four sounds like the word "Death" in Chinese and Japanese (not sure about other asian languages) and is associated with misfortune. And no one wants that, right ;)
Well, I've used my PC on and off for a week now. To be honest, it is running a bit hot for my taste, even at stock speed (46-47C priming). I haven't seen the temperature drop much at all, I have better luck just opening the window and leave my door open (for the airflow).
This is with AS5 (no, I haven't left my PC alone for a whole 15 hours either, but probably a good 8-12 couple of times).
