The only problem with cheap Dell machines is they often shove Intel integrated graphics chips into them. Now this may not seem a big deal for those who intend to use the machine for emailing and word processing, but it could become an issue on those freak sorts of moments where games are installed. You'll be surprised how many people gain an interest in installing the odd game then wondering why it runs so slow on these sorts of hardware.

That's why it's best in my opinion to install a cheap graphics card, nothing fancy, perhaps ones of the low range ATI Xxxx series or something.

Also the arguement about CRT/TFT, leave it. People outside the IT generation couldn't care less what refresh rate or image quality the monitor can produce, all they want is something that works, and looks good.

It's a few pounds more then the one you've chosen, but it's SATAII (although you have to download Hitachi's 'feature tool' to activate SATAII mode) Excellent value for money.

YeaH, the integrated graphics on the Dell machines is a big concern. I think mt Dad is leaning towards a custom build now.

I upgraded my Dad's PC using a similar ASUS board to the one the OP has chosen. The onbard graphics work fine.

I think that unless your parents have expressed and interest in games, you should chose an LCD instead of a graphics card. LCDs look much better, take up less space, and use less electricy.
