What the hell is this?
im installing-up a comp to replace a dead one, and noticed a rather weird port on the back. after a look under the hood i was even more confused.
is this some sort of suicide device?! do tell :)

do you have a coolermaster Musketeer at all - the have a PCI slot at the back like that for measuring sound pressure or some other useless crap :)
-
no  and i doubt it ever did, its a K6-2 400. and before i piled some more ram into it it had 32 megs. OLD TECH.
anyone else?

Where do the wires lead ?
-
Looked like a fanspeed controller to me...
-
-
on the outside it looks like one of the composite things like here:

except its all black and i wouldnt plug anything into it i wouldnt mind seeing goung up in a shower of sparks :surprised:
-
From the outside I'd say it was an audio jack, but those wires look like they go to the molex power connector?? Could it be for an active subwoofer?
-
Erm looks like a power connector for a swipe card reader or something. Rather than having a big external psu to drive a serial magstripe reader, pinch power off the computer.
-
wires are indeed connected to a molex cable. and daverobev thats a good idea, before the format it was running DOS and wouldnt do anything but tell me it couldnt read from COM2 A/R/F?
should have stuck the drive in another comp and ad a snoop. nevermind tho!
-
Whats the symbol next to it?
-
-
well theres your answer, a 12v out for something, might have been a printer, scanner, speakers, who knows, but it should be safe to remove now you dont need it.
-
or you could utilise it to its full potential, and actually run a 12V DC electrical device off of it:)
-
yeah i was gonna say DC output for something, depends how much amps the psu kicks out as to what you could power... some of those compaq PSUs come with a 12v dc output for connecting speakers to :) It also makes them an arse to repair...
-
Yup, seen old speakers powered that way too. Can't say I've seen it for a good 4+ years at least though.
