    Here we go again

As some of you will know I've been having trouble with my motherboard not recognising my XP2000+.

It worked perfectly fine with the Duron 1.2GHz I had in it before.

I've managed to get it to recognise it a few times, but it seems to be trial and error.

I am now getting "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" and "IRQL_NOT EQUAL_OR_LESS" or something or other..

It's driving me crazy, I just want to be able to use my goddamn PC

I've E-Mailed Soltek (motherboard manu's [SL-75FRN-L]) so im waiting for a reply from them, any ideas how I can get the damn thing to boot and stay on.. ive had it up and running once before I got the machine check error after about 30 mins.

I get an IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS error if i have overclocked the RAM.

    What speeds are you running/voltages?

and have you got the latest BIOS?

It may recognise it as a 1666MHz Duron or a 1250MHz duron and keeps changing the memory from 166 to 133 or 100 at times on its own..

try resettin your bios so it goes back to original settings for everything, look in your mobo manual should tell you there, you normally have to move a jumper to another pin, normally located near the bios cell, battery

set the fsb to 133, and check the divider on the memory - what make and speed ram do you have?, also what are the voltages for the cpu and the memory, could be flakey ram?

have you tried running memtest86 (check google if you dont know what it is) to test your ram is fine?

I would RMA the board mate. How long have you had it? and has it ever worked with that CPU in?

check whether there are any incompatibility issues with the rev of the motherboard you had, a gigabyte board i had a couple of years back claimed it could do 100/133mhz fsb, yet 133 wouldnt boot, or would bomb out before windows loaded - sounds a similar problem...

edit: just checked, its a nforce2 board... shouldnt be any problems but i shall have a look round - is it one which only supports single channel? try setting your ram voltage to 2.6 or 2.7v - and do you have one stick or two?

set the fsb:memory divider to 3:3 (or 4:4 / 5:5) so that the ram is running the same speed as the fsb.... what fsb speed did the duron run at ? 100mhz - and that was fine? do you have any other ram you can test with the system?

hmm.. again posting from the suspect PC atm.. (waiting for another BSOD )

Could it possible be a faulty CPU?..

Would anyone be willing to test it for me? A mod for example?

Just a thought as none of my m8s have a board capable of taking an XP2000+
