I was in toys r us yesterday and i seen core duo laptops for £600 with 1gb ram 100gb hdd etc if i was in the market for a laptop id be going for that. Saying that it looks like a decent enough spec you have there even though acer build quality feels a bit iffy to me

According to Acer's website it's an ATI chipset so that's the bit I don't getOriginally Posted by shaithis

I've got the Aspire 1650 as my work laptop.
Pentium-M 2Ghz processor and a gig of ram.
Its really good. The basic Acer dvd suite you get is not bad aswell.
Not had any problems whatsoever.
Ah, wasn't aware of that. Who would you recommend then?Originally Posted by Platinum
I have been very pleased with Acer support. They dealt with my problem very well and I was more than satisfied with the procedure.
Acer are IMO a budget choice - you can buy better (Samsung) but their value for money is excelllent. Perhaps heavier and slightly more bulky than some of the competition but well built. Perfect choice if you are on a budget and don't care too much about the name.
The laptop you mentioned is great in every way except for the chipset (the motherboard's chipset is SIS) and the CPU. A Sempron CPU is about as cheap as you can buy. An AthonXP 2800+ or 3000+ would probably outperform the CPU in this laptop (would you agree???)
If you can stretch the budget I'd recommend something a little more powerful (even if you don't think you need it!!!)
What will you be using it for????
EDIT : Check out Dell's 6400 and HP's latest dual core offerings. For the money they're very good value...

I've had a look at laptopshop.co.uk but the specs on the IBM/Lenovo laptops don't get near the one I'm looking at til you get to about £700.Originally Posted by philipbain

Have you taken a look at any HP laptops yet?
Don't be put off Acer or Dell either.
Haven't looked at any HP ones. I'm avioding Packard Bell - we have a fwe at work and none of the batteries keep their charge.
My brother gets a discount at Comet so might go for the one there
I'd recommend a Tosh. They have always been solid laptops, and I've had and been around a few. As to the exact model..well thats up to you!
Well Hello!
Wait for the Merom cpu's to come out
