    Which CPU clocks better

I’m in the market for a new cpu, dual core of course. I know the new intel stuff is better than the AMD stuff, but I really don’t want to change my platform.

    I can get the x2 4200 for £125, but the x2 3800 is £100 and is 200mhz slower.

I intend to Overclock so I’m just wondering if its worth getting the 4200 if they are going to clock the same.

Has any one had any experience of overclocking either of these cpu’s? If so what kind of settings, and temps were you getting?

Btw I plan to water cool.

You might want the 4200+ just because it got a higher multiplier, hence you can run a lower HTT (usually more stable) and it might overclock slightly better than the 3800+.

Was thinking that to. but ive seen some reviews were the 3800 clocks to the same as the 4200

All depends on your motherboard to be honest, if it can handle high HTT's then go for the 3800+, I went for the 4200+ just because it was quicker at stock and thats what I plan on keeping it at at the moment.

I see you have the DFI so I would say save the cash and go for the 3800+.

Yeah, it's down to your motherboard stability at high "FSB" settings. You can typically lower HTT and Memory divider without performance hit. You need it to get to 300MHz to get good results with the low multi on the 3800.

I find the multi on my 144 (same speed as the X2 3800+ but single core) is speed limited by the motherboard/multiplier limit.
