    Keeping Conroe Cool (Cheaply?)

I'm thinking of binning the OEM HSF when it arives. As I was thinking of ordering a few mor bits from Scan (3 mor matched drives for RAID 10 ) I was thinking of adding a new cooler preferably one that's going to be quieter than the stock unit and keep it a bit cooler without having to drop more than say £25 or so on it.

I've got the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro waiting for my E6600 - I gather it'll work!

It's HUGE - at least it's the first non-stock HSF I've used, so it's HUGE to me

If you've got a sink that cools a P4 then you ain't got any worries as the Conroe's run on a hell of a lot less power and runs a hell of a lot cooler to I am using the XP-90 on my P4 and it runs perfectly happy in the mid 20's

Not if you want to push a very high overclock with additional voltage.

    My XP-90 barely handles my 3000+ @ 2.7Ghz, let alone a Conroe at 4Ghz...

Looks like I'll go with the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 then, unfortunatly that's another £280 order to add to my system that I still don't have.

freezer pro 7 is a good bet as its cheap and offer decent performance. The Scythe Ninja is probably the best air cooler you can buy. These chips run really cool anyway, so unless you're doing some major overclocking, I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Anandtech's article about the 6300 and 6400 demostrated that high speeds can be achieved even with the sctock HSF, these run very cool.
