The fan packed in on my ti4200 ages ago, but I've been using a ghetto-fix of 80mm fan and cable ties (works a treat), but I've got my hands on a stock AMD Heat Sink. I was wondering if it was possible to bond this to the cards core (as theres plenty room under the card), without it coming off using thermal adhesive. So.... anyone know how good an idea this would be?

well if u properly apply epoxy its on for life :)
Arctic Silver doesn't have any bonding abilities I'm affraid. You'll be better off buying a proper chipset or graphics cooler and attaching it with the two holes properly, and using Arctic Silver.

Artic silver thermal adhesive is very strong. I stuck an athlon sink to a ram chip before (on a gfx card, upside down), and that was watered down with normal artic silver. That was an absolute git to get back off when I needed to remove it. I don't think you'll have a problem with it to be honest.

better idea would be to get a drill, make 2x4mm holes on the heatsink in line with the holes on your card and bolt the heatsink on using m3 bolts :)

Well when i needed to apply a blorb to my geForce 2, I think it was seven years ago, i put arctic 3 in the middle and a DOT of superglue in each corner. The blorb held up till it died....and i like to think that if want to get it off then it will be easier than if i had used arctic adhesive over the entire surface....just a thought in case you have some silver already.....could save you money

i'm trying to do the same thing as you bruno, i've got a heatsink with 4 holes drilled in it, but as the heatsink isnt that big, i've had to drill holes to be bolted with the four holes around the core (i think these are m2.5 sized holes and i dont have any 2.5 nutes/bolts so its a bit useless at the moment :(...
I wouldnt be too keen on mounting a 400g (or so?) heatsink on a graphics card only bolted diagonally, prolly would bend the card - but i dont know.. i just need some bolts so i can try to mod my gfx card too :)

edit : checked on google and found this site which seem to sell m2/2.5/3 nuts and bolts so i shall see whats what :)

I'm going to weigh the heatsink, I'll see if it's going to be too heavy for the card, but it's Alu so it should be fine. Might try that bolt idea, but I'll need to find a mate with a suitable drill.

Seriously, I have stuck a coolermaster athlon sink (the one rated to 1200MHz) to 2 ram chips on a graphics card before and had no problem. You will be fine.

If you are going to be sticking large things to chips I'd reccommend artic alumina adhesive. It's non conductive so it won't short your pins on the chips.
