    Intel D2 6300 - temperature problems

Just finished setting my PC up and i started sorting out the Q-control & fan speeds when i realised i dont know the max temperature i should set it for. Im running the Intel D2 6300 on a Asus ASB-P5B mobo.

I have 2 80mm fans kicking out the back 1 80mm on the side blowing in and a soon-to-be fitted 120mm at the front which will be blowing in(#3 80mm will then changed around to blow out) This is on top of a Akasa CPU fan.

iv been trying to find a good medium between coolness & quiteness yet i cant seem to get anywhere near it. iv set up the Q-fan and set it to optimum, this turns the rear fans off and lets the CPU fan go down to 788rpm. I then ran prime 95 to make sure that when the PC got hot the fans would all kick in. Only they didnt, and i had to shut prime95 off as the CPU krept up to 60, still with the rear fans off and the CPU running like the clappers.

Even with 'performance mode' enabled on the rear fans stay they stay off, allowing the CPU to hit 60oC.

Im fearfull of running anything on it incase i go and damage something only 2 days after buying it all.

    Any ideas? thanks guys.

the core 2 duo is fairly cool.. don't worry about the temprature.

my idle 6300 gets 40' degree at idle. 5X at max burn..

edit: trying to update bios thru the net, the temp spiked at 66oC.

Just read a review, and it is not the best of cases, espically for the lovely hardware you have!

    http://reviews.pimprig.com/cases/ima...7-front120.jpg

Very restrictive, not much air through there.

    http://reviews.pimprig.com/cases/ima...-rearpanel.jpg

    Again very restrictive.

Might be worth investing in another case?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=137809

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...nLi_Cases.html PC7+

My favourite out of them is the PC7+.

    3x80mm and 1x120mm means a loud case.

Sorry mate, but thats what I would do.

Ever since i received the case iv considered sending it back, but never bothered as it seemed too much hassle. If this mobo is going back aswell i think i might try n get the case sent back aswell, because so far its ben a real let down. There are large gaps where you screw the side panel in at the back(where it bends round the back for you to screw in theres a few mm of gap, you also have to push the case hard in to line up the holes). it is also very very stiff to get the side panels on & off, requiring a large amount of force to do it. When you slide the case sides in, it also slides diagnollay down slightly, causing an overlap at the bottom, not notacible until looked at closely...but lets face it, this is a case designed to be noticed, with the big window in and the glossy paint...

When it arrived the on board speaker's wires hadnt been attached either, some metal had also been bent into the space where the PSU should go which needed to be bent out to try and get the PSU in. Both easily sort-able at home, but when you pay for a case, you dont want to receive a sub-standard case and then have to tinker with it to get it to work first.

I plan to contact scan in the morning and explain the situation to them, and [hopefully] see what they can do.

However, that being said, those temps i posted above(high 50s etc) where with the side panel off, so it isnt the case causing all the problems, even with the case side completely off the idle temp is still very high 50s under low load.

case im gunna call up about tomorrow and try and return it then buy a new case from scan.

As for heatsinks, this is what i am atm:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=382297

Surely a new heatsink wont make that much of a difference?

    Now thats wierd-

    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...p_test/10.html

    It shows the best temps!

The temp sensor might be off, my comp is running hotter than usual because I want it to be quiet. But its stable.

Change the case, if that does not help the only thing is the temp sensor is off. What thermal paste and how much did you use?

Andehh I know what you mean about the fan settings you only have three settings and no way to set the temp threshold for your CPU!
My CPU went up over 60 oC but i sort of expected it to cos of the prescot cores

I also think this cooler is quite afective

ill call scan up tomorrow and explain the problems i have with the mobo & case to them and see what they can do. Iv spent a lot of money with them over the past few years so hopefully they'll be able to cut me some slack.

As i said above, currently, with all fans running at max speed it idles at 51 with no load. if i put it on q-control under the 'optimal' setting it stays around the 64ish mark, 'performance' mode lower it to high 50s. On q-mode, the rear chassis fans - both connected 2 mobo dont turn on at all, even when the temps hitting critical. (ie >61)

God knows what it'd be like under the hevay load of Bf2, Ut2k4, planetside etc...

Its in our dining room, which is a fairly big room, with good ventilation. Cant be more then low 20s in here.

Spoke to scan today and they tested mobo & intel without any problems, they ran them at 34oC. What i cant figure out is why they run 20-30oC hotter with me?

Could it be software reading the temp sensors wrongly?

edit: as for the case, they agreed it was faulty and im looking at getting the Coolermaster Cavalierr 3 now:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=134904

Seems like a popular case & has got some good reviews.
