    graphics card for shuttle

What would be the fastest/most powerful graphics card that could be used in a shuttle with a 350W power supply, other components being a 4200+, 2Gb ram, HDD, DVD writer. I think a full height card would be ok.

    Thanks

    Andy

    Aha....right.....now we're talking.....

You have many options open to you, mainly because the only thing limiting you here (realistically) is the physical space within your case.....

Assuming that you're using the one PCI slot next to the graphics slot, then obviously you would only be able to get a single slot graphics card in there....

That rules out anything like a 7900GTX or X1900 as these have dual slot coolers as standard (unless the makers have used non-reference coolers)...

You could quite easily run a 7900GT or a X1800 GTO (or something along those lines) as long as they have the single slot coolers, as your psu - being a shuttle variety and therefore VERY efficient - will quite happily power anything in that range....

This will give you very good performance.....

If you're not using the PCI slot, however, I believe that a dual slot cooler g/card will just fit in the space, and therefore give you a great range of upgrade opportunity to you......just be careful with the length of the card, as I believe some of the longer cards might conflict with the cooling duct that feeds cool air to your cpu HSF......

    Hope this helps....

Thanks for the help, i didn't realise the external PSU was efficient enough for a high end card, i aren't really interested in buying a shuttle, just more interested to see if a SFF gaming shuttle is possible and how expensive it would be.

    thanks

    Post Shuttle SN25P power?

well not sure if this follows quite right but on my Shuttle it plays games fine for 20 minutes and then i get shards and the polygon fragments all over the place like the card just running out of something - not quite sure what the problem is but if you have any ideas would be welcome. thanks

May be the graphics card is faulty, can you try the card in another system? it may be overheating thats another option. what is the complete system spec, just to give an idea how much power it will be using.

ok... Shuttle SN25P, with AMD Opteron 165, Corsair RAM 1 Gig, LeadTek PX7800 GTX Extreme 256...

have taken the cover off the Shuttle now - placed two fans either side of it but 'Empire Earth II' still getting shards and fragments... the rest of the time the Computer seems to work fine...

is there any kind of utility that could check the LeadTek Card?
    thanks for your replies

The only way i can think of to check the card would be to put it in another system and see if you get the same problems.
