Computer sounds like a JUMBO JET today

i left the comp off all night, and today it has been making a really obvious metal ringing sound, exactly the same kind of sound usually heard at airports, albeit louder.

it's kindof like a mini jumbo jet screaming metal noise, and i've looked at all the fans. it sounds as ringy as an old fridge at the moment, and i've just migrated to a new case that has been okay for a fortnight.

anyone encountered similair noises before?

did you know that the sound is a ringy kind of one, like tinnitus of the computer? ringy. :ssssssssssssssss like that. i think it may be affecting my brain.

A fan might be dead/dieing. Check them all.

my brain is more booted up now, i think that it's some weight somewhere on a mechanically micro-clanky part of case. ez

My dads comp sounds like a vacuum cleaner, ever since I had to replace his PSU, didn't want to spend loads of cash on a silient PSU, so got a noisy 400W, oh and its not Q-Tec!

a wire caught ina fan is usually the culprit, but if your not sure just stick ya finger on the middle of the fan and stop them one at a time (be careful doing this, some fans are really fast and can potentially knack you finger) when the noise stops u have your dodgy fan. also could be your HD as I had one that made a hell of a noise just before it failed.

naaa it's the law of the micro clankies, u got to learn the micro clanktonics of making comps.

Its the old... "things in motion stay in motion". Its probably an old fan that the lubrication inside has gotten old & gummed up. When you left it off, it became worse, so when you turn it back on its making more noise. (or something similar could have happened to your harddrive)

You should be able to narrow it down to which fan. Then turn off computer, etc.... take the fan out.... remove the sticker from it and oil the center with a little mineral oil or other eletrical safe lubricant. Then put a piece of tape where the sticker was.

You may just want to do all of your fans while you've got everything open and working on it.

Dust your case out while you're at it... (using compressed air)

and you should be good to go

i looked at every fan already, it's something joined to a fan... it's the reverberations of the power supply what are making a plate shudder. i bet it happends often.

I've had fans resonating cases before because of the fact they weren't bolted on veyr tight. Check the screws

Oh know G4Z don`t go saying things like that about the HD just before Xmas i can`t afford a new one.

viet cong zombi Yes oil the inside of the fan ( just a little ) and try putting some rubber washers between the case and fan.

Just check the fans by briefly stopping each one in turn with your finger (the hub not the blades!). should help you narrow it down.

Oh and, it sounds obvious but... check you haven't got an odd disc in your optical drives...
