    Comments on systems components?

I am anticipating ordering in the next couple of weeks and would appreciate any comments on my choices so far :

Machine is mainly for gaming - I will be attempting some mild overclocking

    Cheers

    thats a good looking spec

one quirk however. wait until the last possible second to get the motherboard, as memory compatibility seems to be utter bobbins atm

p.s. try and speak to clunk about his dealings with the dh board

    Yup,

The current choice of motherboard sucks, I usually use Crucial for memory and notice the P5WDH doesnt even feature on their compatibility search engine - not good.

I don't really want all the wing-dings you get with this board (wifi etc) but seems like the best option for stability and oc'ing from what I can see.....

Can anyone recommend any memory that is 100% with this board?

    Ta for the reply!

100% compatibility and conroe motherboards aren't something to be said in the same sentence atm!

those akasa psu's seem a bit overpriced to me, you could get a tagan/seasonic/enermax for that price

You're right, I guess I'm just playing it safe assuming that the Akasa will fit the case perfectly (previous bad experience!)

I think you should change the X1900XT there are a lot of complaints about bent ones and faulty chips
Whenever you try your best whatever happens will be for the best

Any PSU will fit in the AKASA (i can vouch for seasonic 100% as i have done it) and i would really recomend a seasonic for that money, get the 600w one, just a few quid more and you really wont be dissapointed!

      • CPU:
      • i5 2500k (stock)
      • Memory:
      • 8GB Corsair Ballistix 1600MHz

      • PSU:
      • Tagan TG530-U15 530W

      • Operating System:

I'd also say don't get the Akasa PSU. Personally I would recommend one from either Enermax, Seasonic, Tagan or Thermaltake. They are the big, reputable manufacturers and have all had very good reviews of their products.

I am very happy with my Akasa PSU, much quieter than the Enermax it replaced, but then I only have the cheapest 400W one as I am certain I will never bother with SLI. That 650W one looks a different layout though, probably lots noisier.

Quick play with a PSU calculator shows your proposed system will draw ~274W under load.

That should allow for some stonking blue LEDs, or a cost reduction on the PSU

Thanks for that, I am not really the 'blue LED' type, I might downgrade my wattage and go with a classier make.

I think as with most people considering Conroe systems, the real problem is finding the right motherboard. Having done a bit more research I am now looking at the Abit and Gigabyte offerings rather than the Asus.

    Cheers
