Intel P4C 3Ghz 800FSB Retail £217.38
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS4000 Pro TwinX £280.83
Asus Radeon 9800XT £400.68
Someone is gonna have a suave pc when its built :)
i'm about to upgrade my pc, and its cost less than the radeon :)
Ouch. £280 for 1gb of RAM? Is it really worth it? Couple of 512 DIMMS at about £65 each is all I'd go for, and that's decent brand prices.
Opinions... 1gb for £280?
If i had the money i would go for it.
I really really want to get some corsair, and dont really want to know if something is cheaper for the same performance :) it is just sweet :)
Will
Indeed, but £280 for a gig?! It better cream everything else for that price!
Its DDR 4000 tho Vaul, I guess the intention is to run the processor at fsb of 1000 mhz, and get the processor overclocked from 3 gig to 3.75Gig.
If this isn't the intention then you are quite correct its waste of money.
I think if you've got the money which Parm definitely has, then sure spend it on this memory, its probably going to last him years and years. (at least till ddrII anyway)
Tho if i was spending that much cash i would have definitely not purchased a 9800proXT for £400, i'd have got a nice LCD panel, and gone for the 9800 se AIW, and tried to softmod it.
I'd have also gone for two hard disks and raided them.
Nice Spec Parm, let us know how you get on with the build :)
TiG
Looks good - I run a pretty similar set up at work (though it only has a 9200, and the RAM is only 3200CAS2 :( )
You may find you have to play with the memory timings before it'll install windows properly - I can't remember the exact settings, but I had to do this on all three systems I built on this board. Don't worry though - every system has been rock solid stable.
Saturday never seemed so far away LOL
Regarding this component list. Is this the best that is available at the moment? It seems to be top-end on everything. Granted you could go out and spend a sh*tload on an Alienware Laptop of some sort.
Its just interesting to see what it costs to get the best at the moment. £1320 that's €1900 to me. Phew that's lot of cash. Maybe not to some. Brings up the whole price versus performance debate. personally couldn't see myself forking all that out.
Parm, post some pics when you're up and running mate. This is gonna be a sweet system!
Where about in Wolverhampton ? ;) :D
Very nice system there mate, should keep you going for a while to say the least ! :)
I'm curious, does anybody know if a Live Drive from a Creative Sound Blaster Platinum 5.1 would still work if it was connected to a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS?
I have a Platinum 5.1 at the moment, and although the live drive (the thing that goes into the cd bay) has only one use, its a vital use as its where I plug my headphones in.
Other than that, the only place I could plug them in would be in my soundcard on my new case which would be a little too far.
Anyone have any ideas?
It should work - i dont think the pin outs have changed.
Doesnt the aud 2 come with one ? - cant remember !
Nope - Live Drive won't work with Audigy 2 or ZS, worked with Audigy 1 fine. They changed the signaling
Cant you just rewire the pins ?
Or is it sealed ?
Been so long since i even saw a SB, never mind a live drive ! :)
Dayum, the Audigy 2 Platinum ZS comes with a live drive, but the none platinum model is half the price, so I went for that.
Where oh where will I plug my headphones lol
Well, scan.co.uk made an error and I won't be recieving the parts now until Monday. They have however reimbursed the delivery charge.
*UPDATE*
So, guess whats on my bed right now? No, not Natalie Portman, but the next best thing...

It looks so pretty I almost don't want to ruin my castle!!! I am sooo excited. Right, gonna dive into these boxes head first, I will see you when I manage to find my way back out.
Yay yay yay yay yay
I envy u thats all i can say!!!!!!
I purchased this fan:
http://www.parm.btinternet.co.uk/pics/PC/014.jpg
I was aware of the high noise levels, so I bought a Coolermaster Cooldrive 4 in an attempt to keep it quiet.
Unfortunately, I can't control the fan speed from the fan controller.
The fans in my PC connect to the controller using 3 pin connectors. Unfortunately, the Vantec Tornado's 3 pin connector only has the one yellow wire. I can therefore read the fan rotation speed on my controller, but can't adjust it. The red and black cables are connected to the 4pin connectors and therefore can't be connected to the Cooldrive.
Has anybody else come across this problem and does anybody know a sollution?
Or will I need to buy another fan...?
now thats a spicy meatball!
sweet rig! let me know how you get on clocking with that ram as im looking to get a 3gig P4 myself and i've heard so many different stories on ram i just don't know whats going to be best :)
happy building!
