Medion PC MT6 (MT313) CPU 100% Problem

Hi,

I have a Medion PC MT6, P4 3GHz HT form Aldi.

Occasionally when doing anything, working, browsing etc the PC's fans kick in at full speed and the PC becomes very loud. When looking at Task Manager I notice that any of the processes running shows 100% CPU usage.

It can be any of the processes, Win-Amp, Trillian, Dev Studio, Firefox, Thunderbird, any. But only one at a time. When I close the app, it locks, I then kill the process via Task Manager and the process then closes, but the 100% CPU usage then goes to another Process that is running, again random.

The only way to get out of this, is if the system blue screens, or I restart it.

It does the same in both Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server. There is nothing installed that would cause this in general, as I run the same setup on various systems.

Is there any know issues with this problem that anyone knows of?

there is a piece of spyware out there that hacks ur registry and consistently says ur pc is running at 100% efficiency. Try running an anti-virus program to check for anything malware-ous. After that go into the bios by pushing delete just after restarting your machine. After a period of heavy usage is probably the best as thats when it'll be at its hottest. Navigate the BIOS to the PC Diagnostics (or something along those lines) page and check back the temperatures. Ur 3Ghz pentium 4 runs a prescott core, which run very hot indeed. That coupled with the stock HSF could be causing temperature issues.

How much RAM do you have?

Get UBCD and run a burn in test thing to max the CPU and see what happens then, if the system crashes then you have stability problems which would explain the BSOD i guess.

Also it's very odd that you're seeing single processes have 100% usage on a HT chip - is HT enabled?

I'd also try looking out for a BIOS upgrade if you can.
