Just installed my E6600 and checking with cpu-z shows my core speed jumping between 1600 and 2400 MHz....this is with speedstep disabled =/ The multiplier is jumping between 6x and 9x
Games are jerking as well...
Any ideas?

I was about to dive on and say speedstep.
Try turning speestep back on. Possibility that something has gone haywire when you disabled it.
Otheriwse go for the fix everything apprach and reset the CMOS.
Chuckskul has a point. They could have somehow become reversed? Are you sure you installed it properly?
Got it sorted.
For some reason there are 3 (yes 3!) different features that all do the same as speedstep.....didn't turn them all off (C1E support was still on).
Why 3 things to do the same job? :confused:
It's not the same job.
C1E is an enhanced halt state, which means during halt state the CPU draws less power.
Speedstep means that during non-halt state (ie you are using the CPU) the voltage and speed vary according to demand.
