    Core2Duo Pre-Build

    Hi all
This is a great forum by the way
After 6 years in the wilderness my brother and myself have decided it's about b****y time we upgraded are archaic system from a well known purple and yellow computer outlet . I probably shouldn't state that. Suffice to say it has 256mb, a gforce fx5900, a pentium 4 and, ahem a 60gb hard drive. However we have survived playing some good games up until recently.

I was going to go for an amd system until a few weeks ago but i have since priced up a couple of specs based around intels e6600 from pcspecialist.

    CPU

    INTEL® CORE® 2 DUO E6600 (2 X 2.40GHZ) 1066mhz FSB/4MB Cache
    Memory

    2048 MB CORSAIR DDR2-667 PC5300 - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x1GB)

    Motherboard

    ASUS® P5LD2 SE/C: DUAL DDR2, S-ATA, x16 VGA, 3 PCI/3 PCI-EX

    Hard Drive

SATA II 320 GB HARD DISK @ 7200rpm 8mb cache

    DVD ROM/Combi Drive

16X DVD ROM WITH 48X CD ROM

    CD/DVD Writer

    16x +/- DVD WRITER (8x +/- Dual Lyr) (5x DVD-RAM) (40x CD-RW) (£23)

    Graphics Card

    256MB GEFORCE 7900GT PCI Express + DVI + DVI + TV-OUT

    Power Supply & Cooling

600W Super Quiet Quad Rail PSU + 120mm fan & CPU Cooler

    Monitor

    HIGH END TFT: 19 INCH SILVER/BLACK: 8MS + DVI!

This with the warranty and keyboard/mouse comes to £1304 with vat and delivery

I did a near identical spec except there was a different option available for motherboards, this was a ' ASUS® P5W DH DELUXE: DDR2, x16 slot, 975X chipset, 2 PCI '. This spec came to £1382. Is this because it is a better motherboard.

In general is this a good spec?, to be honest anything would be an improvement on what we have.

    thanks

thats about as good as its going to get from now, the asus p5b is a good choice, since your opting for the 7900gt which is nvidia and shall require an SLI mobo if you ever want to go SLI, you could wait for the nvidia chipset on the intel platform ?

other than that good set up

    { Sugo SG-01e }{ E4300 @ 2.8ghz }{ Cellshock 2x1gb pc2 8000 }{ X1950XTX sapphire }{ Gigabyte DS2R }
    { HD501LJ samsung 500gb }{ 250GB seagate barracuda }{ Creative X-fi }{ 500W silverstone PSU }{ Sharkoon air cooling }

No need to be embarressed, I'm still using a PII400, I thought I'd built my PII around 6-7yrs ago, you must of been out there buying the P4 as it was released.

I'm with you, my PC can come to the end of its life as my day to day PC, I'll be building an E6600 based machine in a few months, already roughly spec'd it out, not interested in OC or games, the PC will be used for video/photo editing.

    Rough spec-
    E6600
    2Gb memory
    7600 Nvidia Gcard
    250Gb HD
    DVD writer
Samsung TFT 19" 940BF 2ms (bought couple of weeks back amazon - £195 free delivery)

full system spec'd £850 inc TFT (no OS)

Just waiting no for more MB to come on the market, ideally looking for one with firewire built in
