Conroe upgrade dilemma

Hiya, just hoping for a bit of help with my conroe upgrade.

As I am currently running a socket 754 Athlon64 setup, I have accepted the fact that I will have to pretty much buy a whole new set of components. But was just wondering if I would be able to use my current psu. It is an Antec 550W true control. It's never given me any problems in the two and a half years I have had it. And I remember someone using this same psu to power a socket 939 setup even though the motherboard had a 24 pin socket and the psu only containg a 20 pin atx plug.

Would I be able to get along with this psu in a conroe setup until I get my next psu, (probably a seasonic s12 600W) considering I will be running at stock and not overclocking. Oh, and I also should mention I won't be running a high powered pci-express card just yet also due to lack of money and will be using a geforce 6200 pci card for the time being.

Antec make very high quality PSUs, that one should last you a VERY long time and 550W is plenty.

You can get 20 to 24 pin converters if you are worried the motherboard won't like just using 20 pins.

But i'd never recommend using one of these, just get a decent 24 pin psu.

I had used my TruePower 550W /w 24pin converter on my Pentium D @ 4Ghz, it will handle Conroe no problem unless you try to force a SLI Setup / X1900XT on the PSU.

My Antec Neopower 480w has no issues with my conroe so you should be fine with plenty of juice to spare

Even though Conroe is a processing power upgrade, from a Watts perspective you'll be using less, so you should have no issues.
