Recommend me a notebook for my brother..

I was thinking of getting my eldest brother a notebook gift. His Pentium 4 1.7Ghz suitcase with 128MB ram is far far too heavy IMO.

Recommend me something that is light, long battery life (as he travels alot), something thats NOT 256MB memory, and will handle several 10s PDF, word processing and music/vids fine.

Not looking to pay alot, something between £400-500... maybe possible to stretch a WEE bit higher..

Looked at Dell's bit, the cheaper ones are like 3kg.. uhh.. maybe other opinions?

Yea, d600s are quite nice - though the nicest I've used have been toshiba, but not sure on the prices.

I would say I'm one of the worst people to recommend places to shop for used laptops, but have you had a look at Dell Outlet? They may have some there which suit your requirements.

im thinking he will be happy with the change in weight and size of ANYTHING that uses a true notebook processor rather than those bloody p4's storage heaters. im poartial to Acer although im apparently biased for owning one.

I personally wouldn't buy a used laptop. You can get a decent new laptop for under £500.

    How about this for £400

    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/115617
    Acer TravelMate 2428WXMi Centrino 1.7GHz 512MB 60GB DVD±RW 14.1" WLAN XP Home

I personally think this is an excellently spec'd machine for the money. And only 2.35Kg!!!

I'm looking for a laptop for a friend and was going to recommend a Centrino Duo based machine - but this really has me interested!
